During the 2022 MTV Video Music Awards Sunday night, rapper Nicki Minaj took the stage with some of her greatest hits before accepting the Video Vanguard award, where she thanked those who inspired her and those who have given her huge opportunities. "I want to take a second to just say thank you to all of the key people that inspired me and who I think inspired my flow. Lil Wayne, Foxy Brown, Lauryn Hill, Jay-Z, Slick RIck, Doug E. Fresh. And then I wrote people who gave me huge opportunities that I'll never forget – Kanye West, Beyoncé, Madonna, Mariah Carey, Eminem, Britney Spears, Rihanna." And Minaj also credited those are no longer with us like rappers Pop Smoke, Juice WRLD and Nipsey Hussle. "I wrote this down, I don't know why y'all, but this was in my spirit to say: I wish that Whitney Houston and Michael Jackson were here. I wish that people understood what they meant and what they were going through. I wish people took mental health seriously, even for the people who you think have perfect lives," said Minaj. Minaj has previously opened up about her own mental health struggles, even revealing in 2011 to Cosmopolitan that she had become so depressed while trying to break into the industry, she had suicidal thoughts. The rapper took a brief hiatus after her 2018 album Queen, which she has since said was much needed as it affected her mental health for the good. And on a lighter note, while Minaj did spend time during her speech mentioning people who aren't here today, she did mention a very important someone who is. Minaj shared, "Listen, I have a new baby, his name is Papa Bear. Papa Bear, I love you so much. Mommy loves you so so so so so much!"

Machine Gun Kelly reveals how he gave himself a bloody head injury at concert
On Late Night With Seth Meyers Wednesday, Machine Gun Kelly spoke about his self-sustained, and very bloody, head injury while performing at Madison Square Garden in New York City one night earlier. The avoidable accident occurred when Kelly broke a champagne flute over his head, causing a significant cut near his right eye. “You know when you clink a champagne glass with a fork? Yeah, I didn’t have a fork,” Kelly said. “So I just clinked it on my head.” Following the incident, Kelly had blood running down his chest and on his hands. He even almost reopened the wound while on Late Night because he was wearing several rings and rubbed his face. As Meyers pointed out, given the nature of the injury, Kelly kind of had it coming. “You know what?” Meyers asked. “In medicine they call that asking for it.” “Yeah,” Kelly replied, “so I had a serious case of that last night.”

It was quite a night for Machine Gun Kelly at the 2021 MTV Video Music Awards. While Sunday night may have gotten off to a rough start, when the rapper got into a fight with UFC champion Conor McGregor on the red carpet and had to be pulled apart by security, MGK quickly recovered and continued to walk the carpet with his actress girlfriend Megan Fox, who basically broke the internet with her stunning look. However, while MGK may have forgotten to thank Fox in his speech, when he won the VMA for Best Alternative video, the actress didn't seem to mind, as she later swooned over her boyfriend while introducing his performance. "I'm a huge fan of this next performer. I've watched him grow, not just as an artist but also as a person," said Fox. The actress later added, "New York, I need you to get extra loud for our future baby daddies." The 2021 MTV Video Music Awards took place Sunday, Sept. 12 in Brooklyn and also featured performances by ceremony hostess Doja Cat, Justin Bieber, Lil Nas X with Jack Harlow, Alicia Keys, Normani, Camila Cabello, Shawn Mendes, Olivia Rodrigo, Chloe (of Chloe x Halle fame), Kacey Musgraves, Ed Sheeran, and twenty one pilots. The 2021 MTV Video Music Awards took place Sunday and Madonna, the woman who opened the very first VMAs in 1984 with a performance of “Like a Virgin,” was back to kick things off again. But it wasn’t her arrival that had people talking, it was her departure. After a pre-produced video introduction with Madonna riding in the back of a New York City taxi and describing her move there as a 19-year-old, the MTV icon took the stage to a long ovation before removing a trench coat to reveal a black leather dominatrix outfit. “And they said we wouldn’t last. But we’re still here, motherf***ers!” Madonna said. “Welcome to the 2021 MTV Video Music Awards.” That’s when she turned and walked away, revealing much of her butt cheeks. And while the 63-year-old is no stranger to creating buzz at the VMAs, like her 2003 on-stage kisses with Britney Spears and Christina Aguilera, this time was no different as viewers quickly took to Twitter with their reactions.
